Join me on an Acrylic Ink Adventure at Idyllwild Arts Summer Camp!

AcrlcInkPerezOh my gosh I am so excited to tell you I’ll be teaching Acrylic Ink Adventure, a 3 day retreat, at Idylwild Arts, June 30-July 2 in Southern California and registration is open now!

This has got to be one of my favorite locations to teach. I love the environment, it’s so beautiful and relaxing, it’s totally a feed the creative soul kind of place. Click here if you’d like to download a pdf copy of the catalog.

In this retreat we are going to spend the first day in total experimental mode.

I’ll teach at least 10 different techniques using acrylic inks; creating colorful textured backgrounds, exploring mark making with different kinds of stamps, drawing with quill and ruling pens, painting imagery opaquely and with a transparent watercolor look, working with simple resists and masks while layering washes of color.

How Can You Resist

The second day will focus on making one larger whole cloth painting incorporating the techniques learned on the first day.

And on the third day we will layer the finished painted cloth on felt and add decorative stitching by sewing machine to enhance the painted imagery.

This class is packed with tips and techniques for working with acrylic inks on fabric.

Acrylic Inks can be bought at an art supply store. If you dont have one nearby you can order them online from Any of these brands will work Liquitex, Daler-Rowney FW or Magic Color.

Some of the quilts I’ve painted with Acrylic Inks are Black and Bloom All Over and 8 of Cups.

Check out the photos from my workshop at Idyllwild in 2011.

If you live out of state, Southwest Airlines flies into Ontario, CA, which is the closest airport, about an hour drive from Idyllwild.

Oooohhh… I would LOVE to join you. Must count pennies and see what I can do – I’m supposed to be buying a sit down long arm in June which would severely restrict my ability to go to retreats. Must recalculate. 😉

Hi Judy, i enjoyed your class at Road so much that I signed up for your camp in Texas. Do you think I could switch to Idylwild instead? I live in Southern California

    • Wow, thanks Teri, that’s great!

It’s totally your call when comparing the two options, each venue is a great location to have a workshop. The difference between them will be; in Texas it is a total of two full days of teaching time, minus the 3rd day of stitching and the price includes food and lodging, other than that we will cover the same techniques.

  3. […] the way, the ‘Early Pay Discount’ deadline for my Acrylic Ink Adventure- 3 day Summer workshop at Idyllwild Arts has been extended until this friday, March 22. If you […]
