Where did September go?

Wow this month was so busy it feels like it’s over before it even started. I had two teaching gigs back to back so there was twice the amount of prep to do, and a trip to Berkeley to see my son Ty,

.

then a trip to San Luis Obispo to move Phils son into the dorms at Cal Poly, as well as an overnight visit with my old high school friend Sue who lives nearby.

.

We also fit in a couple outdoor concerts with some of our favorite local bands.

The most recent one I invited uber talented mixed-media artist Elizabeth St. Hilaire and her boyfriend Andrew to join us while she was in Sacramento.

I also squeezed in a bit of fabric making, Paint and Printapalooza style. My goal was to make a bunch of fat quarters of neutral fabrics to use for a modern quilt top I’m working on.

.

I also tried out some of my new ocean themed thermofax screens.

Paint and Printapalooza with the River City Quilters

Last week I gave a lecture and taught a 2-day Paint and Printapalooza workshop here in Sacramento with the River City Quilters Guild.

Everyone made so much beautiful fabric, here’s a sampling of what was made over the two days.

..

I will be teaching this workshop next at Craft Napa in January, and there are still a few spots left if you’d like to learn how you can make your own hand painted and printed fabric.

There are also a few spots open in my Make an Impression! workshop. In this workshop we will focus on making hand carved rubber stamps,

.

foam stamps

.

and learn the ins and outs of successful printing with rubber, foam and wood stamps on fabric.

.

Next month I’ll be heading to Paducah, KY to teach 2 very popular workshops: Tea & Ephemera and Blessings in the wind: Mixed-media Prayer Flags, at Ephemera Paducah. I rarely teach in the middle of the country now that I live in California, so this is a great opportunity to take a class with me if you’re in the area.

My next blog post will be on my trip to the Santa Clara Valley Quilters Association.

Keep creating,

Judy
