When I was working on the project for RIT, I experimented with creating some of my favorite jewel tone colors. I found that I could create a really nice range of bright and earthy colors. These are some of my favorite color combinations.
The wonderful thing about low immersion dyeing is getting the range of values and sometimes little bursts of contrasting colors that can pop up when the different color dye molecules haven’t fully mixed. I love that dark olive color.

The colors are really vibrant. Did you do the dyeing in your home washer and dryer?
oh no, the colors would be a lot less vibrant in the washer and you would loose all the mottled color. This is done in little disposable gladware containers.
1.Can you recommend a general source for low immersion dyeing?
2.How much fabric did you put into what sized container with your one cup of dye?
3.Do you know if RIT dyes are as toxic as procion dyes?

the article in Quilting Arts should answer all your questions with directions on how to dye the fabric and what size containers to use.
RIT is non toxic, making it a very easy dye to use. It’s chemical make up is very different than fiber reactive dye.

Hi Leslie, most people who are dyeing large items like sheets do it in their washing machines. I would suggest you go to rit’s website https://www.ritdye.com/how-to-dye/ to look for instructions on doing that.
