The hackers are getting really good!! Don’t click that link!!!!!
It’s been a long time since I have written anything online other than on social media, but yesterday my Facebook and Instagram accounts got hacked, ransomed, and then disabled by Meta, and as much as I have tried to recover them over the last 2 days it seems like I am SOL. I’m not sure if I can muster the enthusiasm to start a new account on FB or IG after building 16 years of content and engagement with 33K followers. Right now I am pretty frustrated about not being able to engage with humans to resolve problems, AI assistants seem to run you in endless circles of aggravation.
I have gone through endless “chats” on Meta, shown a multitude of articles with no links to actually doing anything, asked both Chat GPT and Claude for assistance, consulted Reddit, but Meta has locked me out of signing into my account saying that it has been permanently disabled due to whatever inappropriate thing the hacker has done on my account and I can’t log in in order to try to make an appeal.
So I guess my next option will be to share updates on my archaic blog on my website for those of you who are subscribed and on substack @creativealchemist that this will be it’s first post.
In more positive news…
I have 2 Mindful Stitching retreats next year. In the mean time I am going to do A LOT of stitching and knitting over the next few days to soothe my soul.

I really enjoyed stitching this anteater, and then adding a row of marching ants in silhouette using a variegated brown floss. In my workshops, one of the many things I teach students is how to make and use paper templates to transfer designs onto the linen.

Well, hell!! Soo unfair and frustrating! I understand the inclination to just give it up, but, all your fans and friends would promote your new account. So sorry this happened to you!

So sorry to hear this happened to you. I do hope you will return to Facebook where our peeps are so active. I have shared several of your posts and people are SO inspired by what you are making!
If you don’t come back, they win.
Don’t let them win.
But I know how you feel. One of my accounts was hacked and over 1500 posts were made and my account was suspended before I even knew about it. But I am not going to let them win.
In the meantime, we live in challenging times, and we must all keep making art and supporting each other.

Hi Tania, I’ve heard more stories from people not getting their accounts back than anyone getting them back so your friend was very lucky. I tried everything, aside from getting help from an actual Meta employee I think there’s nothing I can do.
