The 3 day acrylic inks workshop was booked by a group of art quilters that belong to the quilt guild in Mobile. The guild itself wasn’t interested in the kind of stuff I teach, so the group took it upon themselves to organize this workshop after Sherry Mozley, a member of the group, had shown them the work she did in one of my workshops.
Sherry took a class with me at the very first Create retreat in Chicago back in 2008 and then we met up again when she took a workshop with me at Focus on Fiber Florida last year. I love it when I get to meet up with my students multiple times, it makes it even more fun because it’s like hanging out and making art with old friends.
I gave a powerpoint lecture on color terminology, color schemes, value and the ways colors interact with each other. Then students did a few color study exercises using acrylic inks. Then we got right into painting fabric and making stamps.
Before we start each technique I always do a demo with lots of samples of the different ways the same technique can look.
We need to interrupt this beautiful riot of color with some equally colorful Mardi Gras donuts and king cake.
It is the south after all.
