A trip to Denver and the Arapahoe Quilters

Last week, I flew out to Denver to teach a workshop with the Arapahoe County Quilters, but left a day early to get in a visit with my good friend and old art school roomie Tracy DuCharme who lives on a ranch south of Denver with a pack of llamas, a flock of chickens and two gigantic dogs. The large black dog in the photo is a two year old 160 lb Black Russian Terrier.

On Thursday night, I gave my lecture on Inspiration to the Arapahoe Quilters and Friday and Saturday I taught my 10+ Techniques with Acrylic Inks class.

These are some of the wonderful samples made on the first day of the workshop.

On the second day, we worked on top of the samples made on the first day with a variety of layering techniques.

So many beautiful pieces created and another wonderful trip to Colorado.

On my return home, it was clear my sweet little Abby was nearing the end of her time with us.

She passed away on Tuesday. Abby was 12 years old, and the sweetest Chihuahua I’ve ever known. She absolutely loved everybody. I think the worst of her naughty behaviors was stealing batting and shredding it up. She was my constant companion, wanting to be part of every project.

Abby even made her publication debut in the first issue of Cloth Paper Scissors: Studios in 2008 when I lived in Chicago.

She will always be in our hearts, and will be missed so much.

I’m off to New Zealand on October 1st to teach at  New Zealand National Quilt Symposium, in Christchurch.

After I finish teaching, Phil will fly down to join me and we will make our way north through New Zealand over two weeks and then we’ll fly over to Adelaide, Australia to visit my other old art school roomie for a few days and then stop in Melbourne to visit friends for a couple more days, before flying back home on Nov 2.

I don’t know how often I’ll get blog posts written while I’m on the road, so it might be awhile til my next one.

I’d love to spark your creativity at one of these upcoming events:

    Hi Judy!
I saw you plan to make a PDF for your crossback apron that you dyed. I hate apron straps on my neck, did you make it available?
    Kind regards
