I am very honored my art quilt ‘Fear of Flying’ was accepted into the exhibit ‘An Exquisite Moment’ curated by Jamie Fingal and Leslie Tucker Jenison premiering at International Quilt Festival in Long Beach August 2-4, and will travel to each International Quilt Festival venue over the next year.
My artist statement about this piece is
Fear of Flying
On a flight home to Chicago, after filming QATV in Cleveland on March 7th last year, I happened to sit next to an aeronautical engineer. Very high winds were causing extreme turbulence, which has always terrified me. I will always be grateful to witness the incredibly calm demeanor of this man, who knew everything about planes, that made me realize I could let go of that all encompassing fear and every flight since then has literally been a breeze.
This is a whole cloth painted art quilt that began with white cotton fabric and was painted with Setacolor textile paints. Finished size 24″ x 60″

What an incredible piece of art! I’m glad you were able to calm your fears by sitting next to that man.
Thanks Debra, I think my heart will always skip a beat when the plane hits a rough bump, but its good to know the likelihood of going down in a ball of flames because of it is slim to none, makes flying a whole lot easier.
