The registration for Craft Napa Uncorked opens Tuesday, September 15th at 9:00 AM PST where you can sign up to take my prayer flags workshop.
It has been a really hard year, and I can’t think of a better workshop to start 2021 with than one making prayer flags. It’s hard to know what shape the country will be in by then, but the pandemic will likely still be raging and I’m hoping with all my heart that we will have a new government poised to bring some unity to our battered and divided country.
We need healing at every level. From our individual selves all the way up to the whole planet.
The act of creating is the activity that helps me emotionally the most, and I know that when I’m feeling at my lowest, it’s really hard to find the motivation to do things, so I’d like to encourage to check out all the wonderful workshops that Pokey has organized to lift us out of our doldrums and reign in a new and creative year!
Of course, I want you to sign up to spend the day with me, especially considering that it might be the only workshop I teach in 2021, but I know the competition is pretty awesome as far as workshops go. So let me tempt you by showing you a little bit about what we’ll be doing during our 6 hour live zoom workshop.
We’ll be using acrylic inks to create a rainbow of beautiful fabric to make our flags.
I’ll give you all kinds tips for successful stamping on fabric using foam, rubber and wood stamps to decorate the fabric.
and I’m also going to include a large sheet of meaningful words burned into a thermofax screen that I will show you how to cut apart and tape with duct tape. Then I will teach you how to print with the thermofax screens on your fabric.
The large thermofax screen sheet of words will be included in your kit, and you will be able to use them over and over to make more flags in the future. I will teach you how to tape the screens, so you will now how to do it in the future, and because it would be too expensive for me to include that many pre-taped screens.
There will also be other options for adding words and images printed in black on abaca paper (images below) that can be collaged onto the fabric using matte gel medium.
The kit will also come with cotton twill tape to hang the flags on.
Over all I think it’s going to be a really fun day that will give you the opportunity to try a lot of techniques that can used for other projects besides just making prayer flags. I hope you’ll join me, sign up now.
