Painting with the Fresno fiber arts guild

This last weekend I drove down to Fresno to give a lecture and teach my workshop Painting Imagery with Textile Paints with the Fresno FiberArts guild.

What a lovely time I had, this is one creative group of gals! They are knitters, weavers, beaders, sewists, felters, art quilters and all around textile artists.

We had a great workshop, as you can see by all these beautiful paintings made by my students.

I can’t believe I forgot to get one more photo of the octopus after he got eyes and the suckers painted on his tentacles!

Unfortunately, I missed getting photos of the gorgeous work from a couple sisters that left a bit early to avoid the heavy rains for the drive back to Pacific Grove. Maybe they’ll see this post and send me photos so I can share them with you later.

I was glad to get back home before the rains hit too Sunday night. We have been deluged with water this winter, sadly I saw a lot of downed eucalyptus trees on my way back from Fresno. With their shallow roots Euclid’s are very susceptible to falling with the strong winds that have accompanied these ‘atmospheric river’ storms.

The central valley was put under flood watch this week because so many rivers and reservoirs are at capacity. Luckily this latest storm has turned out milder than forecast. I’m now on my second new sump pump in two weeks, I think the last one fried from over use. I’m really looking forward to some sunshine in a couple days!

Heads up Sacramento peeps, learn from my mistakes!!

I’m giving a lecture and trunk show at Meissner’s Sewing, on March 3rd, at 10 am called: It’s All in the Process, Making an award winning quilt and everything that can go wrong along the way.

In this one hour powerpoint, I’ll tell you about the problems, mis-haps and challenges I had making a variety of different quilts and how I resolved each of them. This talk is loaded with tips, how-to techniques and information about the different products I use and why.

I’ll also have loads of quilts for you to see and copies of both my books to sell.

I’d love to spark your creativity at one of these upcoming events:

April 21-23 Paint and Print-A-Palooza- 3 day workshop,  Meissner’s Sewing, Sacramento, CA

May 5-7 Prayer Flags- 1 day, and Paint and Print-A-Palooza- 2 day workshop, SLO Creative Studio, San Luis Obispo, CA

October 5-10  New Zealand National Quilt Symposium, Christchurch, NZ
Painting Imagery with Textile Paints- 2 days

Keep creating, Judy

Judy, it was great to work with you and learn from your vast experience. We so appreciated how you took time for every individual in the group to answer questions, guide us to improved results, and inspire us to try something we had never done before. We thoroughly enjoyed your workshop.

  2. The student works are fabulous! Praying that you and your home are safe and dry!

    • Hey Sherry,

thankfully we are getting a brief reprieve right now. I’m having to wipe down the walls daily and have several dehumidifiers placed around the house to help dry things out. I’m glad for the drought relief, but I would love to see a few weeks of straight sunshine!
