Wow, another great Craft Napa is over. I love having a place like Craft Napa where I can teach both textile and non-textile themed workshops, since I really enjoy both.
I have been unpacking and repacking, tying up loose ends and finalizing trip details non-stop this week, but before I jump on a plane I want to give you a photo filled run down of my week teaching at Craft Napa.
On Thursday, I taught a full day of exploring shibori techniques; folding, pleating, scrunching, tying, clamping, pole wrapping and stitching to create resist patterns on fabric, then we used acrylic inks to “dye” the fabric.
It was a blast, the options and exploration of pattern using shibori methods is endless; from the different ways you manipulate the fabric to the various ways to apply color, I think we could easily have spent a few days doing this. I don’t have as many photos of results, because most of the fabric was still too wet at the end of the day and they needed to dry overnight. Things tend to dry slowly when it’s cold and rainy.
But aren’t they gorgeous? so many possibilities…
Friday was Paint and Thermofax which was essentially my Paint and Printapalooza workshop minus shibori and stamping.
After making all the colorful textured base fabrics, the excitement really gets going when we start screen printing!

On Saturday, it was really fun to change things up and work on canvas.
This was very exciting, I’ve only taught a few classes working on canvas, so I have a bit more apprehension of how it may go, but man oh man, I was blown away by the results of this class!
This was the inspiration wall behind my work table, and a few of the things on my table for demoing to show several different ways to approach painting an image as well as blending colors and building up layers of detail.
I have completely fallen in love with process of working and painting with fluid acrylics and Posca Paint markers, and it was really fun introducing it to a group who also fell in love with the process too.
The student work floored me! They are all so vibrant and unique.
Pokey came in the class at one point and it was so quiet while everyone was focussed on their paintings that she started calling it the library! 🤣
On Sunday, I taught my old Heavy Metal Play Day workshop. I stopped teaching this class in 2013 when I could no longer get the tools from Walnut Hollow, but one of my dedicated students Nina Shortridge, asked if I could teach it one more time, and luckily I had enough metal stock piled and tools to be shared to make it happen.
What a great time!
Now I need to get back to packing and weighing suitcases since I fly out on Monday. I have a very busy travel and teaching schedule and I’m not sure when I’ll have time to post next, so unfortunately it may not be until I return in March! Until then…
