I have two workshop events coming up, the first one is Pacific International Quilt Festival in October, and the second is Craft Napa January 2022. I’m so happy to see how well California is doing with the pandemic, we have a high vaccination and mask wearing rate and our numbers are the lowest in the country. YAY! There may be an end in sight if we all keep doing our part.
PIQF
It has been interesting to watch the last couple Mancuso Brothers in person quilting events and hear from teaching friends who travelled and taught at them who have come home virus-free due to the strict mask wearing and social distancing protocols at those shows. This gives me confidence we can do this, if we all do our part.

Craft Napa!!!
I’m thrilled to be teaching at Craft Napa in January! This will be a 2-week event with online workshops and one set of teachers the first week, and an in person event with a different set of teachers the second week.
Proof of vaccination, and masks will be mandatory for the in person event. And to keep everyone safer Pokey has reduced the class sizes to 15 students so it will be easier to socially distance.

Create a mixed-media fabric panel with an illustrated scientific document theme by printing vintage diagrams and text with thermofax screens, collaging sheer printed abaca paper images of flora and fauna, and then painting the illustrations with a variety of paint media to bring them to life.

Learn to Make Fiber-Friendly Acrylic Ink and Artfully Dyed Fabric

Acrylic inks can be an easier, and more environmentally friendly alternative to coloring and dyeing fabric than using fiber reactive dyes, and the best part is being able to use your fabric in projects as soon as it’s dry.
In this workshop learn how easy and affordable it is to make your own fiber-friendly acrylic inks with just a few ingredients from ProChem. Judy will walk you through the process of measuring and mixing ingredients to make a full spectrum of permanent, colorful inks that leave fabric with a soft hand.
Then we’ll spend the day exploring a multitude of ways to create richly colored, and visually textured fabrics by applying acrylics inks to cotton fabric with different types of brushstrokes, using sponges, altering ink and water ratios, mono-printing, adding salt, as well as scrunching, pleating, and clamping with a variety of shibori techniques.

As much as I hated the impact of COVID on the world population I tried to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn from artists all over the world via ZOOM.
I we never timely enough to catch any of yours before they sold out.
Have you ever considered making recordings of your teachings available for sale? I am really interested in your work with ‘fiber friendly’ acrylic inks as well as your slow stitching linen scarf (I actually went to fabric-store and got hooked on their collection of ‘softened’ linen). I know many artist long for the time they can board planes and travel the world. I’m not able to move around so much any more but love opportunities to learn and create.

now that I have recorded tutorials of the content in both of those classes I will be working on setting up a few online classes that will be self-paced with no need for zoom scheduling to make it easier for people in farther away places to take them. There is still some more I need to do before I can set them up, but I am working on it around a few other projects that I’ve got. I’ll be sure to announce them in a blog post once there ready to go. 😁

I am a resident at Mission Villas condo association in downtown Davis,CA. Another resident, who is an artist, and I are members of our building’s beautification and art committee. We have been searching for sometime for wall art for the main entrance to our condo building and spotted your work on display at The Artery in downtown Davis. We are exploring commissioning a custom piece made for the building’s entryway and were very impressed with your work.
