Kia ora!
No place speaks to my heart so clearly, and fills me with as much inspiration as New Zealand, and with the help of Kerry Glen of Tulis Textiles, I’m planning a teaching there for February 2020.

New Zealand’s pristine rocky beaches and rolling green hills remind me of Sonoma county, Northern California where I lived in my teens and early 20’s.

New Zealand reminds me of the best parts of California, maybe that’s why I love it so much and always want to spend time there.

A year ago, I was blogging about my last trip in October of 2017, but it got interrupted by my busy schedule and I never got a chance to post about my Paint and Printapalooza workshop on the North Island in Whangarei.

I spent two fabulous days with the Quilting Club in Whangarei teaching them how to create colorful painted and printed fabric using acrylic inks.

Acrylic inks have become my favorite way to color and create pattern on fabric because of the ease, and instant gratification of achieving much faster results, as opposed to using dyes. The other highly appealing factor for me, living in a drought prone climate, is that acrylic inks don’t require large amounts of water in the process the way dyes do.

Kerry has been organizing with groups in Christchurch, Whangarei and Hamilton about booking me for workshops, if your group would also be interested in having me come for a workshop or lecture, please contact Kerry so we can make it happen.
In other news…
After taking a 3 year hiatus, I applied to teach at Quilt Festival in Houston. This year I’ll be teaching a 2 day Paint and Printapalooza workshop, Thursday, October 31 – Friday, November 1,

and I will be teaching my Tea and Ephemera workshop on Saturday, November 2.

I’d love to see you there.
Keep creating,
Judy
