Come Paint with Me in Canberra! 26 April – 4 May

painting acrylic inks 3x3.5I’m so excited! Cecile Whatman of Unique Stitching is bringing me back to Canberra to teach several classes in the mixed media classroom at The Creative Textiles Show  2-4 May.

And since she’s bringing me all that way and I have a couple free days in my schedule, she has arranged an opportunity for me to teach 2 more painting classes in Canberra before the textiles show!

These will be full day classes with morning and afternoon tea along with a light lunch. If it’s anything like what she arranged last September in Canberra, it’s sure to be fabulous!!!

26-27 April 10 Techniques with Acrylic Inks – 2 daysAcrylic Ink

Spend a day exploring surface design techniques: create colorful textured backgrounds, acrylic Ink surfaces
explore mark making with different kinds of stamps, hand carved stampsand drawing with quill and ruling pens. Explore layering washes of color and imagery,

How Can You Resist
by creating masks with freezer paper and make simple resists from common items found in the office supply store.

octopusAnd learn to paint imagery opaquely or with a transparent watercolor look.

29 April Painting Imagery with Textile Paints – 1 day

painting gradationsPaint offers endless opportunities for creating special effects on fabric, from adding details, dimension or shadow to creating fully illustrated scenes.


While working with textile paints, students learn techniques for creating smooth gradations of color, glazing paint to create more visual depth, covering large areas and backgrounds smoothly, avoiding blotchiness, control paint bleeding, how to working with freezer paper masks, and paint smooth lines and fine details.

This is an information packed class geared to help students gain confidence painting on fabric for art quilting.

 The Creative Textiles Show

2-4 May, I will be teaching 3 classes at The Creative Textile Show in Canberra.

Mini Metal ManiaPerezMiniMetal -3 hours

Learn how to make beautiful designs with dimension and texture on aluminium. Create embossed patterns and imagery, discover several methods to add colour and work with pre coloured aluminium sheets. Finished pieces can be stitched into art quilts, mixed media or used in tags, pages, cards and more. Easy, relaxing and fun!


Tsukineko Inks:

Images will be provided so there’s no need to stress about artistic skill levels here, I’ll teach you everything you need to know to paint beautiful imagery with these Inks. Tsukineko All Purpose Inks are permanent when heat set with an iron and do not change the hand of the fabric.

These are three hour classes, so if you want the whole Tsukineko Inks experience sign up for both classes, each class is one half of my regular 6 hour workshop.

fantastixTsukineko All purpose inks have a broad range of applications for painting fabric. Learn effective shading and blending techniques working with the Fantastix applicator tool in a dry brush method to create original fabric to use in your quilts.


Tsukinkeko Inks with Brushes and Aloe Vera Gel -3 hourstsukineko brush

Learn to paint with Tsukineko inks in a more painterly watercolor style using paintbrushes and aloe vera gel to create unique imagery on fabric.

I will also be doing demos  of various techniques on the show floor with Unique Stitching throughout the Creative Textiles Show.
